Answers

1. How to install Lanslim ?

Once you have downloaded the archive file of the windows executable, you just have to unzip the file and launch the excutable. To enable icon tray minimization you have to keep executable and dynamic library (dll) in the same directory.
 
2. How to configure Lanslim ?

Once you have launched the application, you have to click on the Settings Button and fill the two mandatory fields Name and Host.
On this dialog you also can set your default style, configure shortcuts, import/export contacts, define the contact view display, customize the contact drag and drop, choose your language
 
3. How to configure Contacts ?

There are two ways to configure contact. Either you can import contact file through the settings dailog as descrided in How to import/export contacts ?. Or you can create contact via button , then you have to fill the two mandatory fields Name and Host, and eventually choose a category.
Note : you can also create groups as described in How to create a Group ? or categories as described in How to create a Category ?
 
4. How to start a new talk ?

Heare again there are many ways to start a new talk : Either you use the "New Talk" button and choose a title and the members of the talk among your online contacts and groups. Or you double-click on a online Group or User contact.
 
5. How to use message history ?

Once you have started a talk you can callback the last ten messages you have sent by using the combinaison of keys "Shift + Up" and "Shift + Down" to browse your history
 
6. How to use shortcuts ?

Via the settongs dialog you can define shortcuts, that enable to add comonly used sequence of text by pressing Function keys F1 to F12
 
7. How to send multiline message ?

To send a message you have to click on send button or just press the Enter key, so if you want to write multi-line message you have to use the following combination of keys "Alt + Enters"
 
8. How to import/export contacts ?

Contacts may be exported/imported via csv files. These fucntions are available form Settings dialog via buttons and
 
9. How to create a Group ?

You can create a group via the new group button
 
10. How to create a Category ?

You can create a group via the new category button
 
11. What is the difference between categories and groups ?

Groups are a subset of your contacts with who you can start a talk quickly via double click
Whereas categories are just a way to organize your contact in the contact tree
 
12. How to restore a profile ?

If you open the application and no contacts appears in your contact list, it may be because the last saving of your profile failed, try to use your bakup profile in your personnal directory (Commonly c:/doc and Setting/UserName under windows). To use it copy it then rename it.
 
13. How to invite or exclude people from talk ?

To invite people you can drag contact from "Contact view" to "Who's In? view" or to the talk pane. But you also can click on invite button and select in the dialog the contacts you want to invite.
To exclude people you have to select them in the "Who's In? view" and click on the exclude button
 
14. How to export a talk ?

If you want to keep a trace of your talk, you can export the text via right click on the tab of the talk tab pane and select the output file on dialog.

16. What is the display of different availabilities ?

There are three different availabilities :

	ONLINE and AVAILABLE
	ONLINE and BUSY
	ONLINE and AWAY
	ONLINE and ENCRYPTED
	OFFLINE
	UNKNOWN used for groups
	BLOCKED


 
17. How to add a new language ?

You can open the excutable with winzip and find the message files (one in french, one in english) You have to translate the messages present in this file and send me the translation. I will create a new version taking this new language into account
 
18. How to use HTTP proxy ?

HTTP proxy may be needed in case your network administrator has forced proxy use to access web. The access to the web in not required for most of the functionalities of the tool but the uptodate control and the web image display in talk pane. To configure proxy, check the box and fill host and port fields in the settings dialog box.
 
19. How to control that current is up to date ?

To control that your version is up to date, you can manually check version via the about dialog box. But you can also force control at each start via the settings dialog box.
Note that web access is required to make the control.
 
20. How to send offline message ?

Since version 1.1, you can start talk with both online and offline users. Offline users will get back all the talk historical as soon as they connect provided that they connect before you disconnect. Moreover offline users will be excluded from talk as soon as the talk leader left the talk.
Note that online users appear in bold in the PeopleInArea whereas offline ones appear in plain.
Note also that it is still impossible to invite offline users, but it is possible to exclude them.
 
21. How to send encrypted messages ?

To exchange encrypted messages, you and your correspondant shall activate encryption in Settings menu. If one of the two sides has not activated encrytion, messages will not be encrypted.
Note : in a group talk you will be able to send/receive both clear and encrypted messages depending on the encryption ability of the sender/receiver.
 
22. How to send XML text message quickly ?

To exchange XML text, you must replace < characters since text must be valid regarding HTML syntax. To do that quickly :
• you can define a shorcut with value &lt; and replace manually all occurences
• or you can select the text containing forbidden characters, a contextual menu is accessible via right click and propose to automate this replacement
• or you can select the button <X> to automate replecement before sending message
Note : the last option may be store in your settings, but be awared that global replacement disable style tuning of your message since style tag will be escaped
 
23. How to disable/enable notifictaion bubble and icon blink ?

It is now possible to define finely what notification you want. The configuration is available from setting dialog. In deed you enable/disabel each notification way per type of message received.
 
24. How to publish mood/state ?
A new combo bow and a new free text field appeared in main toolbar in order to publish your state and mood The state can only be changed thanks to the system tray menu.
 
25. How to send file ?
File can now be attached to messages, but this functionality is limited due to light weigth network protocol embedded in LANSLIM. Then since UDP does not waranty every message reached his target, file transfer may be broken, and many tries may be necessary, especially with big files.
 
26. How to warn contact ?
Thanks to this button you can send a sound at everyone in the chat.
Note : All sounds can be switched off in settings.
 
27. How to block a contact ?
Thanks to this button (also present in popup menu) you can block/Unblock a contact
The contact will locally be seen as an offline contact (but with this representation to make the distinction easily), so messages sent to him will be enqueued as long as contact is blocked. And at the other end, the contact will see you offline.
